Alan Guth Explains Inflation Theory
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
The physics world was rocked by a discovery that may shed light on the wild birth of our universe. Using the BICEP2 telescope at the South Pole, scientists have found what they believe to be the signature of gravitational waves propagating from the rapid expansion of the universe in the first tiniest fractions of seconds after the Big Bang. Hmmm ... so basically 2 big bangs. So I say they need to go back to the drawing board. In another video Alan Guth said "there's no kind of explosion that leads to that kind of uniformity". So why would a 2nd explosion lead to uniformity?
-
Why do I feel like science and scientists are always desperately looking for a theory that excludes the universe having a beginning and the universe being finely tuned? I'm a agnostic btw, boarding Theist.
-
The most astonishing fact about our Universe is that it is uniform and the only way to explain is through the inflation. It is natural to think that Universe was uniform in the very beginning but, any unifority fades out in time unless we have the inflation.
-
Quantum physicist say that the universe had no beginning.

Questions:
Assuming a singular mass existed that "banged", (even without the current forces of nature being in existence yet), why would the mass only "bang" in one direction? Wouldn't it make more logical sense that it would "bang" in a 360 degree spherical shape? Then the entire universe would all come into existence at basically the same time at a certain expansion point? Do we exist in a spherical universe that is resting upon a spherical fifth dimension (the dimension that had it's own forces of nature and the mass that "banged")? Is that why galaxies far from ours appear to be moving faster and faster and away from each other, they are going over the horizon of an expanding spherical universe? Is that why the universe is basically flat as it is all on a spherical surface of the fifth dimension? Is that how entanglement works in part? Energy goes through the fifth dimension and not necessarily through our universe? If the fifth dimension is really true, can we travel through it one day to other places in the universe?

What is space expanding into?

They still have not explained how the whole of the universe could be as small as a grain of sand and everything fit into the tiny little space? that sounds good in theory and it may work on a chalk board but Even the earth is a lot larger than a grain of sand. then if you the earth and the earths moon and all the planets you might as well start over from scratch! i do not think that they have thought that issue out yet! however that the earth itself is bigger than a grain of sand!! It sounds like God/ creator would have to have a large part in the situation then! Yes, i am sure he would!!
-
How could the universe be small in the past if it's infinite? And if it's finite how can that make sense what is it bounded by? End of a dimension? (whatever that means)
-
and which school did you get your PhD in cosmology from, Charlie Morin?
-
It's amazing that Alan Guth could become famous for Inflation Theory. The theory has no foundation and there's no evidence that it's correct. It's just pure speculation and is doomed to be proven wrong in the long run.
-
"etc, etc". Got it.
-
Where's da bible in all of dis, how can inflation happen 14 billion years ago when the earth is 6000 years old? Can't explain that lol (Bill O reilly)

Alan Guth grew from a particle physicist to cosmologist. His ‘due diligence’ shines through out all of his work. Great data, convincing logic, fabulous presentation. Well done, Alan !!!
-
Alan is a humble guy. And easy to follow and even more interesting and " human" in person. So others like Sean Car---- (not into dropping names but if you know physics you know "him") belittle Alan and now it sure appears Alan (not was) IS right! So looking for the three men to receive their Nobles in the future. GREAT JOB ALAN GUTH!!!
