I challenge the figure that 12 athletes have died of over hydration. It every case I was able to find of death from over hydration, it was associated with either hazing practices or it was drug related.
I don't think that any athlete has ever died on the practice field due to over hydration. But there has been over 40 deaths attributed to heats stroke associated with sports practices.
I think that talking about the dangers of over hydration in the context of a sports practice is misleading and a little stupid. -
This is so incorrect, that it is painful to watch. You can be dehydrated and still live, yes, BUT being hydrated is a real crucial part of helping your body run at its full capacity. Stop misinforming people, about things you have no idea about. For the love of GOD people, drink your water and hydrate. KEEP YOUR ORGANS IN FULL FUNCTIONING ORDER!!!
PS. By the time you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. -

False. I rarely feel thirsty. So if I only drink when I'm thirsty, I end up hospitalized with severe kidney infections/kidney stones. Stay hydrated, kids.

when I am exercising I only drink a small amount of water and that's only when my mouth dry .

I've noticed that drinking water when I wake up helps me wake up and realize I'm thirsty, not tired. This is a symptom of my chronic fatigue. Anyone who is too sedentary or has fatigue issues can experience thirst and hunger as tiredness. But it only takes like 1 or 2 ounces of water to trigger that feeling or reawaken it again. I take one sip and I feel it. 8 ounces right away in the morning? I'd get sick.

My Technical Instructors in basic should have watched this, when they had us drinking till I felt like I was going to puke. I started taking fake drinks and spilling the water when forced to drink.

I remember being told by a school nurse that if you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated and you should drink even when you are not thirsty.

I only drank when I was thirsty and ended up in a hospital with a kidney stone. Doctor says I need 2 litres per day.

when you exercise you do pee, and you sweat a lot too, and if you dont hidrate you can tell even from the color of urine.
