The film is both a piece of art in its own right and a recording of Sachs’ historic piece, Space Program 2.0: MARS, which opened at New York’s Park Avenue Armory in 2012. For Space Program 2.0: MARS, Tom and his team built an entire space program from scratch. They were guided by the philosophy of bricolage: creating and constructing from available yet limited resources. They ultimately sent two female astronauts to Mars in search of the answer to humankind’s ultimate question… are we alone? Very interested in seeing where this goes. Looks like it could be a total flop or a Primer-like indie success.
edit: gotta say, I'm getting a little tired of that royalty free stock buzzer/alarm sound. It's bad enough that I have a Pavlovian response to the sound that makes me hate hearing it in anything (used to use it as my wake-up alarm), but it's pretty overly saturated in movies lately. Hope it doesn't make it to the final cut, or they throw in a line explaining how they had to use free resources for everything as a nod of recognition. -
