https://www.altestore.com/store/Solar-Power-Systems/c447/ We go over the 6 steps needed to design a DIY off-grid solar system, and help point you to additional resources to help you successfully create your own off-grid solar system. This is best watched on a PC so you can see all of the links. #1 Figure out how much power you need #2 Calculate the amount of batteries you need #3 Calculate the number of solar panels needed for your location and time of year #4 Select a solar charge controller #5 Select an Inverter #6 Balance of System (BoS)

Here's an off-grid residential solar system I designed using the Aquion 30kwh saltwater battery all purchased from altE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi1b6Dzw-J4

this is awesome, thank you so much for sharing this very helpful steps.. glad I watch this video..

These videos have been very helpful, very well done, thank you so much!

Oh what lovely hair you have... and thanks for all these informative videos.
one question though, How is the Panel efficiency calculated? I mean what factors go into calculating this efficiency to be 12% or 15% or 22.5%? -
thank you so much for showing us how you do it.. glad i watch your video..

GREAT IN DEPHTH TUTORIAL. I STARTED TO FOLLOW YOUR EXCELLENT TUITORIALS ON SOLAR POWER.

In one of your videos, you made the statement that your Solar Panels won't work on Sunless days. This is NOT true! Your Panel is still receiving energy from the Sun on a cloudy Winter day-just not as much. Your Math is correct, however.
I have a small setup at my home, and I have tested this personally. A few days ago, it was windy, rainy & 1/2 Hail-Unusual for the Oregon Coast-My Panels were still sending 11.8 to 13.1 volts to the Controller. Granted, not enough to charge the Batteries, but even on this Sunless day, I WAS still receiving energy from the Sun into my system.
This problem is EASILY overcome by adding more panels-i.e. more Amps. All it takes is money, LOL!
One statement you made that I DO agree with wholeheartedly is to have more Battery storage than you expect to need-Twice is good, but THREE times is what I'm striving for. -
I really dig these videos. Everything is explained in a thorough and understandable fashion. The presenter is awesome!

Cheers nice over-view of the off-grid series, neatly put together.

Amy I have got 2 parts of my solar from you guys and will be buying moreas there is a need. Keep up the good work and God Bless

GREAT video Amy! I liked/shared. Well done presentation. I think everyone who does DIY off-grid (or partial off-grid) needs to watch this. I would have mentioned that the Renewable Energy tax credit for home power systems was extended through 2019. THAT made my day. Thanks for creating this video for explaining DIY Off-Grid systems and design. You are a leader in the community!

step 7, paying for the system

well my mother always taught me to tell the truth,,, hey I have a question for you concerning 24 volts my 12 volt system hooked up with 4__100 watt panels in parallel all the positives together and all the negative together, can I hook up the big 24 volt panels the same way,so I wouldn't have to try to hook up a bunch of 100 watt panels,in series and all that?

Thanks Amy,very helpful, gosh Amy I don't know how you do it every time you make a new video you appear a little younger and even prettier than the previous, thanks again for the information I will look at that calculator and see what I come with.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::regards Bill R.................
