2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY - 04 The Blue Danube

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY Soundtrack combines the "Also sprach Zarathustra theme", various Johann and Richard Strauss segments, and a ballet suite by Aram Khachaturian--all of which prove how much Stanley Kubrick's film attempts to avoid the soundtrack clichés of most science-fiction movies. Instead of the expected sci-fi effects, there is a more ironic application of music that would be otherwise incongruous to the celestial settings. Here, "The Blue Danube" complements scenes involving weightlessness and descending spacecraft, while Gyorgy Ligeti's creepy "monolith" music connotes Armageddon more than interplanetary exploration. The tracks play as they had appeared on the original soundtrack release back in the '60s, but there is also previously unreleased supplemental material and a dialogue montage entitled "HAL 9000." One of the best Sci-Fi flicks of all time. WIthout it, there would be no Star Wars.

This movie! So good... This song! So good too...

@Holly, this is also one of my earliest musical memories. It probably explains my love of space, music in 3/4 time, and even some perspectives on death and evolution. If only more popular artists could see humanity's extraterrestrial future in such a peaceful way! #discovery

I grew up listening to this from my birth in 2000, ...mum watched this when she took me home around 5 hours after my birth, and I still watch 2001a space oddesy to this day....and, I believe that this film is why I like astronomy and physics and all science things today. I think that this film is a masterpiece, and so, I watch this regularly, leading me forwards in life and helping me revise for my chemistry, Biology, and physics GCSE's. 😊😊😊😀😀😀✊🔭🔭🔭🔬🔬🔬📚📚📚💻💻💻💾💾💾💽💽💽🎻🎻🎻🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎧🎧🎧🌎🌏🌍🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌 🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌋🌐🌉🌙🌛🌜🔥🔥💥💥💡💡🌠🌠🌠🌟🌟🌟⭐⭐⭐✨✨✨ 👍👍👍 😺😺😺 😸😸😸 🙌🙌🙌

Every time I hear this, I think of Pan Am, the Orion III, artificial gravity, and for some reason: Virgin Galactic.

I can't ever hear this piece without thinking of the video "2012: A Pony Odyssey", oddly enough...you'd think it'd be more so THIS movie, given that I saw it before the MLP vid, but still... xP
