1986 Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster (Complete Footage - Restored)

In this haunting footage, the astronauts enter the Space Shuttle Challenger for the 1986 launch which within 72 seconds results in a most-fatal death and destruction The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred on January 28, 1986, when Space Shuttle Challenger (mission STS-51-L) broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. The spacecraft disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of central Florida at 11:38 EST (16:38 UTC). Disintegration of the entire vehicle began after an O-ring seal in its right solid rocket booster (SRB) failed at liftoff. The O-ring failure caused a breach in the SRB joint it sealed, allowing pressurized hot gas from within the solid rocket motor to reach the outside and impinge upon the adjacent SRB attachment hardware and external fuel tank. This led to the separation of the right-hand SRBs aft attachment and the structural failure of the external tank. Aerodynamic forces promptly broke up the orbiter. The crew compartment and many other vehicle fragments were eventually recovered from the ocean floor after a lengthy search and recovery operation. Although the exact timing of the death of the crew is unknown, several crew members are known to have survived the initial breakup of the spacecraft. However, the shuttle had no escape system and the impact of the crew compartment with the ocean surface was too violent to be survivable.

those pricks responsible for launching when the temperature was too low and they still went ahead should be in prison for life. cocksuckers.
-
why so much on Challanger and you hardly hear about the shuttle the blew apart on re entry?
-
Save the astronauts save,save,save
-
crazy thougt the crew could've refused to go to the pad acually get it the shuttle
-
it didn't look right right whn it cleared tower wondering if could've broke away from the stack if nasa was paying attention

LOLOLOLTROLOLOL HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA

Indeed, obviously a major malfunction. Recovery forces ? really...none were planned. Debris only and corpses trapped in their capsule, in the ocean. Defective O-rings.

Poor astronauts! that scariest and rude I hate that...What height (feet) when shuttle explosion? Also is they found bodies of astronauts? where bodies hit to in water or land?
-
I was in grade 5 at the time of the Challenger disaster. If I could remember I was in school when the accident happened

Seeing the astronauts going inside the cabin is heartbreaking, inside of me I'm yelling: STOP! DON'T DO IT! ABORT THE MISSION AND F*** NASA!
-
Andrew Sullivan, thank you for sharing your story may your dad RIP
-
Even though it is 30 years I find myself screaming at my cell phone don't get on there your going to die.
May they all rip. -
Wow there still livin
-
its so crazy those poor astronauts had no idea that they were minutes from death as sad

At the speed the craft was going, most of the energy from the blast should have been behind the area where the astronauts were, the cabin broke away and fell back to earth at terminal velocity. Had the ejection seats still been in place, all would have survived!!
