Sonic X-treme was a game that was long in development for many years but due to the dissatisfaction of Sega of Japan executives and the poor health many of the developers had from working long hours, the game was eventually cancelled. Christian Senn, the head of production, almost a decade later released conceptual music, many sprites and maps from the game. Plus multiple gameplay videos have surfaced since then. A playable test version of this game exists for the Sega Saturn but it does not work similarly to what the gameplay videos depict. Currently Andrew75, Skarik, Xak, and Xeniczone are recreating what Sonic X-treme looked and controlled like using the files that Christian Senn released and from many press release. The project is called Project AXSX. Unfortunately the official website has been taken down and was replaced by senntertain. To access the website before the take down use the Web Archive, on the forum pages you might have to select different dates of capturing as some forums were not captured. http://web.archive.org/web/20151127045103/http://www.senntient.com/ In 2014 a member of Assembler games acquired the source code of the Sega Technical Institute engine for Saturn and PC and released it in an AS-IS state. It is both playable in Windows and on the Saturn at the moment. For more information look here: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=34038
